Where I've been and such bull shit
Hello everybody... probably some of the people who are reading this are thinking to themselves... who is this mike kid and why is he posting all of the sudden. Well I am actually on this trip as well and although I haven't made a post in over a month I figured now since I'm in Thailand (Bangkok) and it's fricking riduclously hot and humid outside and I have about 8 hours to kill until my bus takes me to laos, I'd make some kind of effort as to my whereabouts.
Actually my main concern was that the internet cafe has awesome air conditioning and I have really nowhere else to go at this point. I could go to a movie but that requires taking a cab there and back and then paying for the movie which is probably not worth the money to see anyway and this is cheaper. So after that now you know why I am making this update and for all 2 of you who actually read this I figure I probably won't update again until a similar situation occurs.
Now that Im done with my rant I figure i'll mention that for the last 2 months or so I was in Turkey, Egypt, Israel and now in Thailand. All of these places have been pretty cool. I'll put up some pictures of myself in these places here shortly. Also for those of you who haven't seen the pictures... I currently am sporting a beard which at one point was uncontrolled and now it's a bit nicer because I'm in a land where there are actually ladies you can actually talk to. This was true in Israel as well.
Since nobody other than Aaron stayed in Israel other than for a few days of sight seeing I figure I'll talk shortly about my time there.
Once the guys (Ryan, Ryan and Aaron) left i stayed in a hostel with some very interesting people. This hostel was unlike any hostel that I've been to anywhere else in the world because instead of backpackers staying there it was actually full of Israelis living there. Most of them were around 40+ and they were there because at this hostel they have a phone set up where different businesses call in for black market jobs (washing dishes, moving furniture, painting) and this is how these people lived. After awhile it actually got depressing because some of my friends that I made there were living day to day just hoping they would get a call so that they could pay for the nights room (about 10 bucks).
Anyway although all of the younger Israelis were very cool and nice people I found that the older ones staying at the hostel were generally either crazy, jaded and pissed they have nothing and/or racist against blacks, Russians, Asians, and especially Arabs. This is what I found the most concerning about the whole thing. Israel is a Jewish state full of Jewish people... and these people have been persecuted throughout history in all parts of the world. But for some reason they have no problem talking bad about others or denying jobs to Arabs. I don't want to get too much into it but I just thought it was crazy.
Anyway, my time there was great. I met some really nice people and had a blast. Just about everyone in Israel speaks english and that as a great thing too. So here are the pictures (some of these are on facebook so if you've seen them you've seen them)...
